Robert Olonzo Beckles was born in 1945 to David and Gwen Beckles; I grew up in Georgetown the capital of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana located on the Northern tip of South America off the Atlantic Ocean. The second of eleven siblings, At age thirteen; I attended Sunday school at the Pilgrim Holiness church located Georgetown this continued until age 18 years in 1963 when I gave my life to Christ. I served in the very local church as a youth leader until 1966 when God called me into ministry. God opened doors for me to attend Caribbean Wesleyan College in Bridgetown, Barbados in 1966. I returned to Guyana to pastor my home church.
In 1973 I got married to June Ann McLennan the relationship produced two boys who are now married with two children of their own. During my ministry in Guyana I attended the University of Guyana for two years and in 1981 left for USA to study at Marion College (Indian Wesleyan University). I completed 78 credits in a year and half, then attended Western Evangelical Seminary (George Fox University) in Portland OR for two years and one year Clinical Pastoral Education at the Methodist Hospital in New York City to complete a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Counseling. The projection was to lead the Guyana Bible Institute. This did not work out. With no appointment I was offered to Pastor an inner city Nazarene Church in Baltimore. In 1990 opportunity to Pastor Oxon Hill Wesleyan church became available. Due to the unfortunate fire at Oxon Hill I am the supply pastor for college park Wesleyan and senior pastor for Oxon Hill Wesleyan. There is light at the end of the tunnel as we attempt to rebuild Oxon Hill. In conclusion it is my desire to continue serving God and do all I can to enhance the Kingdom of God.
My thanks go to God for allowing me 54 years of Christian living, 47 years of Christian ministry and 44 year of marriage.
